Meet The Teacher
Hello, my name is Sarah and I am the owner and operator of Young Arts, Run Free. I started teaching in 2012 with only a handful of students and have since developed an extensive and engaging creative arts program, with classes held across two schools in Newtown and holiday workshops open to students from all schools.
I believe art is an extremely important part of childhood development because it creates a space for a child’s imagination, while teaching them creative problem solving strategies that can be applied to all areas of life.
I have designed this visual arts program based on my own understanding of art making and research of existing children’s art programs. This program presents different classes each week/term and allows children to engage in a range of art practices including painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking. It is suitable for children at all levels and encourages them to have fun while learning to express themselves through their art making.
I hold Certificate IV in Fine Arts, a Bachelor of Creative Arts, Masters in Creative Arts and Certificate IV in Assessment and Training. I am also a mother, visual artist, musician and Newtown local!
“I started painting as a hobby when I was little. I didn’t know I had any talent. I believe talent is just a pursued interest. Anybody can do what I do.”
